How It Starts: Donors Make a Donation

Our program begins with the generosity of individuals, companies, and corporate sponsors who visit our platform to give. We offer multiple levels of support so that every donor can find a way to make a meaningful impact. Whether it’s a parent who wants to sponsor a single child’s registration fee, a small business looking for local recognition, or a corporation seeking deeper partnership opportunities, there is a place for everyone.

Donors can choose from giving levels that include benefits such as having their logo featured on our website, being recognized in social media collaborations, or even seeing their brand represented on event merchandise. For corporate sponsors contributing $1000 or more, we offer customized packages tailored to meet mutual goals—this might include co-branded initiatives, exclusive community events, or unique visibility opportunities negotiated directly with the NWSF board.

The Application and Review Process

Throughout the year, individuals, teams, clubs, and organizations are invited to apply for financial assistance. Our application process is intentionally designed to capture both need and potential impact. Applicants are asked questions about financial hardship, program goals, community engagement, and how support from The Northwest Soccer Foundation would help them participate more fully in soccer. These questions were carefully developed to reflect our mission and values, ensuring that every request we review is grounded in real stories and real needs.

At the end of each year, the Grants Committee, a board-appointed group of community leaders and soccer advocates, reviews every application. The committee carefully evaluates submissions against our criteria, discusses the merits of each request, and nominates recipients for funding. Final allocations are voted on to ensure fairness, diversity, and alignment with the foundation’s mission. This process guarantees that resources reach those who need them most and that our donors’ contributions create the greatest possible impact.

Ensuring Funds Are Used Properly

One of the most important aspects of our program is accountability. Donors need to know that their contributions are going directly to the intended purpose. To ensure this, we uses a structured payment model:

  • Direct Vendor Payments: In many cases, the foundation pays fees directly to service providers. For example, if a player needs help covering their registration for a local league, we will pay the league directly.

  • Foundation-Managed Purchases: For equipment needs, the foundation may order the items and deliver them to the recipient, ensuring that the funds are used for exactly what was promised.

  • Recipient Reimbursements: In cases where expenses have already been covered out of pocket, recipients can request reimbursement by submitting receipts and proof of payment.

This three-tiered system allows flexibility while eliminating the possibility of funds being misused. By maintaining strict oversight, we build trust with our donors and guarantee that every dollar works toward advancing access to soccer.

Ongoing Accountability and Impact Tracking

Our responsibility does not end once the funds are distributed. The Northwest Soccer Foundation requires all recipients to provide receipts, proof of participation, or short reports documenting how the assistance was used. This allows us to confirm compliance and also capture stories of impact; stories that we can share back with our community and donors.

Additionally, we track program outcomes across multiple levels: the number of players supported, the number of clubs able to expand programming, and the ways communities are strengthened through soccer. This ongoing feedback loop allows us to continuously improve our program and demonstrate measurable results to our donors.

Donor Recognition and Engagement

Every donor, no matter the size of their gift, plays a vital role in the success of our mission. Recognition is an important part of how we say thank you. Donors receive updates on the programs and players they’ve supported, and depending on their level of giving, they may also see their name or logo featured on our website, merchandise, or in our social media collaborations. For our corporate partners, we offer tailored engagement opportunities that align with their brand values and social responsibility goals.

Trust and Legitimacy

We understand that donating is an act of trust. That’s why we’ve built safeguards and partnerships to ensure your contributions are handled with the highest level of integrity. The Northwest Soccer Foundation is a verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the IRS (see our Candid profile), which means all donations are tax-deductible and fully transparent.

We also have chosen to bank with with Crowded, a trusted nonprofit banking platform designed specifically for organizations like ours. Crowded provides secure banking, donation management, and reporting tools that give us (and you) peace of mind. Every dollar is tracked, every transaction is secure, and every report is accessible.

This process may sound detailed, but every step has been built with one thing in mind: protecting and advancing the mission. Soccer is more than just a sport; it is a pathway to personal growth, community building, and lifelong opportunity. By creating a donor program that is structured, transparent, and accountable, we ensure that financial barriers are removed and doors are opened for players and organizations across our region.

When you give to the Northwest Soccer Foundation, you’re not just donating—you’re investing in a player’s chance to chase their dream, in a club’s ability to keep its doors open, and in the future of soccer in the Pacific Northwest.
